Wine Coolers and Regular Refrigerators

Perhaps I'm crazy but before I knew any better I thought that regular refrigerators would be just as good at maintaing wine quality as a dedicated wine cooler.

However, a regular fridge gets opened and closed a lot which upsets the temperature and therefore the constant temperature fluctuations can spoil the wine.

Another reason why normal coolers are not the best option is because the temperature is much cooler than the heat needed to store wine.

Before I became interested in wine and researched more on how your storage system can affect the quality of the wine, I used to store my wine in a rack.

I thought I was doing good because I knew that lying the bottles horizontally would keep the cork moist which would prevent it from shrinking and letting air into the bottle. However I didn't know how damaging light, heat, humidity and vibration can spoil the quality of wine.

I thought it was strange that my wines, which were the same as the ones I'd drank at a friends houses, didn't ever taste the same.

Once I clued myself up on wine storage and bought a dual zone wine cooler, I definitely noticed the difference. And now my wine taste the same as my friends!
